Top Ten Tuesday: We’re Getting Romantical

TOP TEN TUESDAY

Lovey-dovey freebie. My favorite book romances!

Well fellow book nerds, it’s almost Valentine’s Day. The only big plans I have to celebrate involve chocolate pudding and Moulin Rouge!, so what better time to get nostalgic over my favorite book romances?!? Since this is a blanket romance post that includes everything from cute, cinnamon bun love to the erotic, I’ve included a steaminess rating* as a guide.

*Feel free to blame Audible for the name. They have a new romance package that you can add on to your account with books organized by their “steaminess” level. I found that way too hilarious to ignore. Lol.

1. The Mortal Instruments

Steaminess Rating: PG-13
By Cassandra Clare

Okay, I mostly put this on the list because MAGNUS AND ALEC ARE ADORABLE. I love them so damn much!! But there are so many amazing relationships in this series that I love like Clary & Jace, Simon & Isabelle, and Luke & Jocelyn to name a few.

2. Harry Potter

Steaminess Rating: PG
By J.K. Rowling

Do I really need to explain this one?? Harry and Ginny? Ron and Hermione? Dear god, never have I wanted two characters to get together more.

3. The Raven Cycle

Steaminess Rating: PG
By Maggie Stiefvater

RONAN AND ADAM PEOPLE. I AM A PYNCH FANGIRL FOR LIFE!!! But Blue and Gansey are also too cute for words. I just… UGH. I LOVE THESE BOOKS SO MUCH.

4. Halfway to the Grave

Steaminess Rating: R
By Jeaniene Frost

I read this because the reviews promised me a Buffy/Spike-esque romance and they weren’t wrong. This book is pretty fun and I was very entertained listening to the audio. Just please, don’t read the sequel.

5. Jane Eyre

Steaminess Rating: G
(There’s barely even any kissing in this book. Is there a rating less than G? -G?? F???)
By Charlotte Brontë

This is my favorite book and I just HAD to include it. Mr. Rochester has a secret that’s totally not cool to hide to your potential wife/live-in girlfriend/nanny. I mean really, the whole thing plays out like a British, Victorian soap opera (which is why I love it, tbh). But despite all that, the romance between Jane and Mr. Rochester never fails to make me swoon.

6. The Mediator Series

Steaminess Rating: PG-13
By Meg Cabot

Jesse de Silva you guys!!! GAH!! The sexual tension in this series is OFF THE CHARTS and I freaking love it. Plus, after finishing the series in 2005, Cabot just put out a more adult (yet still pretty tame) sequel called Remembrance that was super cute.

7. Anne of the Island

Steaminess Rating: G
By L.M. Montgomery

I really love this entire series, but Anne of the Island is my favorite because it’s the one where Anne and Gilbert FINALLY get together. And it’s just SO FREAKING CUTE! AHH!!

8. Hide and Seek

Steaminess Rating: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
By Cherry Adair

And the winner for most obscure book reference goes to… But no, in all seriousness, this is probably the most ridiculous book I’ve ever read in my life. One of my friends gave this to me as a gag gift, so obviously I ACTUALLY took the time out of my life to read it. And JOKES ON THEM because this book is a hot garbage fire and I LOVED EVERY SECOND.

Please, please, please. Do yourself a favor, track this down and read it. You won’t regret it. There’s an illegal sex ring, terrible hair, a wacky drug lord, piranhas, and helicopter sex. I’ve never laughed at a book so much in my life.

9. The Lunar Chronicles

Steaminess Rating: PG
By Marissa Meyer

I love the romances in this series! They’re so adorable, but mostly I love Cress & Thorne and Scarlet & Wolf. The second and third books in the series are my favorites because of them.

10. The Scorpio Races

Steaminess Rating: G
By Maggie Stiefvater

I just listened to the audio of this a few months ago and I’m still not over it. The romance between Puck and Sean is so extremely subtle, but so sweet. Insta-love is so popular in YA these days, so it was nice seeing something a little toned down for once.

    1. Oh my god, the Raven Cycle is SO AMAZING!! I’m a little obsessed though. Lol. And ahhh isn’t so good?! I love City of Bones, I just reread it! Clary and Jace are my original OTP and I’m totally with you about Simon. POOR GUY!! He always gets the short end of things ☹️

    1. Right?! They’re so cute!! Have you read Wires and Nerve yet? They’re only in it for a second, but it’s so friggin adorable!

And yeah girl!! It’s actually pretty awesome because you don’t have to use any credits. You don’t get to OWN them, but you can listen to as many as you want as long as they have the little Romance symbol on the cover. Check it out!!

    1. Oh my god, that’s so true!! He really does sound a lot older than her. I was super thrown off by the voice actor who did Sean because he did the voice of Elias in An Ember in the Ashes. Since I listened to that first, I could only hear Elias whenever he spoke and it really confused my brain for a while. Lol.

  1. Ha ha loved the steaminess ratings! I was never that into the romances in Harry Potter, I was quite young when I read them, so didn’t really have the concept of shipping yet! I do love the romances in the Raven Cycle though. I wasn’t that keen on Scarlet and Wolf in Scarlet but I look forward to reading Cress because I love Thorne!

    1. Oh I know what you mean! I didn’t read the Harry Potter books until I was 15-ish, so I think I overly swooned at the romances?? Lol. But all the romances in The Raven Cycle are THE BEST AND I LOVE THEM!!! GAH! And I absolutely love Thorne! I hope you enjoy Cress as much as I did ❤️
