January Speed Round

If you’re like me, you take one look at a page full of text and run the other way. Don’t worry my lazy friends, I got your back.

Look at me, posting! It’s like a have a blog or something! *SARCASM ALERT* I inadvertently took a little blogging break there for hot minute. Between my full-time job, the freelance design I do on the side, and a writing class I just started a couple weeks ago, I’ve had little time for anything else. That hasn’t stopped me from reading though, and it’s been a good month for it!! GO ME! Haven’t made any headway on my reading challenge list (of course), but it’s been a good book month. GOTTA KEEP THE MOMENTUM GOING!!

Ignite by Sara B. Larson

Read it? Yes!

This is the sequel to the cliche-heavy book Defy that I reviewed back in December. Okay, LOOK. This series is completely predictable a trope-y, but I really love it for some mysterious reason. The setting is unique, Damon is swoon-worthy, and Alexa is a strong, punchy character that I enjoyed. Sometimes you just need some cheesiness in your life ya know?? If you’re looking for a fun, light romance, this is a series for you.

The Bear & the Nightingale by Katherine Arden

Read it? Yes.

I liked this one! It’s a super slow read though, and it took me some time to really get into it. If you don’t mind a slower pace, this fantasy book is a modern, magical fairy tale. Vasilisa is a rich, strong character that I adore and the setting is so vivid and beautiful. Plus, if you stick with it through the slow beginning you’ll end up falling in love with a frost demon, which was a novel experience.

These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman & Meagan Spooner

Read it? NO.

SAVE YOURSELF. People seem to love this book, so I guess I’m riding the unpopular opinion train here, but I didn’t really care for this book. Lilac was insufferable and even though the ending was pretty good, it didn’t make it worth reading for me.

City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

Read it? YESSSSSSSS!!

This was a reread for me, so I didn’t write a review for it (I’ll write a grouping of mini reviews for the series later), but since I finished it this month I figured I would include it here. I will NEVER get tired of this book and it’s one of my favorites! Seeing Magnus and Alec’s relationship progress all over again just gives me ALL THE FEELS ❤️ This time I read my 10th anniversary edition and it’s SO PRETTY!!!!!!!! Looking at all the illustrations as I read was awesome and really added to the experience!

Reign of the Fallen by Sarah Glenn Marsh

Read it? YES!!!

Speaking of City of Bones… I read Reign of the Fallen and LOVED IT!! For some reason I just haven’t had my shit together enough to write a whole review, but this was soooooo good! It’s like Sabriel and City of Bones got together and had love child. All the necromancy and action we loved in the Abhorsen series mixed with the stellar character relationships of The Mortal Instruments. Definitely check out this book!! Sparrow is AWESOME!

  1. I might have to borrow this format when I do monthly updates lol Loved it!

I’ve only read City of Bones and I kept up with the series until the third book and I’ve given up since then. Please don’t kill me.

    1. Feel free to swipe it! I’m glad you like it!!!

hahahaha I won’t kill you! I totally get it. The third one is actually a good one to stop at. I remember not liking the fourth and fifth one and the sixth one was just okay to me. City of Glass is definitely my favorite though!
